Girl killed after bullet shot by police officer bounced off father’s arm and hit his daughter

A   12-year-old girl was killed by a bullet which was meant for her father. Ciara Meyer, from Duncannon, Pennsylvania, breath her last after she was accidentally hit by a bullet that bounced off her father’s arm. 

Officials said the drama started when Police came to their family home around 10:00 a.m in Penn Township to serve them with an eviction notice, and the girl’s father 57-year-old Donald Meyer came to the door with a rifle.


During their conversation, he reportedly pointed the loaded rifle at the officer's chest. A situation that made Officer Clarke Steele fired a single shot. The round went through the father’s arm, shattering his bone, then the bullet left his arm and hit his daughter who was behind him.

The 12-year-old girl who was home from school as a result of an illness died of the gunshot wound. 

Police said that staffs of the apartment complex were there for the eviction and all witnessed the incident. The girl was pronounced dead at on the spot, while her father was flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center treatment.

The man was charged with aggravated assault, among others.

Court records revealed that he will be in the Perry County Prison without bail after he is released from the hospital.

The family owed more than$1,500 in back rent and costs. Officer Steele has been relieved of his duty while an investigation is being conducted, though there are indications he will likely not face any charges.
